(Read Widow Part 1 First)

  • They posed this question: "Teacher, Moses gave us a law that if a man dies, leaving a wife but no children, his brother should marry the widow and have a child who will be the brother's heir.*4 - Luke 20:28


  • His brother married the widow, but he also died. Still no children. - Luke 20:30


  • But they shamelessly cheat widows out of their property, and then, to cover up the kind of people they really are, they make long prayers in public. Because of this, their punishment will be the greater." - Luke 20:47


  • Then a poor widow came by and dropped in two pennies.*1 - Luke 21:2


  • "I assure you," he said, "this poor widow has given more than all the rest of them. - Luke 21:3


  • But as the believers* rapidly multiplied, there were rumblings of discontent. Those who spoke Greek complained against those who spoke Hebrew, saying that their widows were being discriminated against in the daily distribution of food.1 - Acts 6:1


  • So Peter returned with them; and as soon as he arrived, they took him to the upstairs room. The room was filled with widows who were weeping and showing him the coats and other garments Dorcas had made for them. - Acts 9:39


  • He gave her his hand and helped her up. Then he called in the widows and all the believers, and he showed them that she was alive. - Acts 9:41


  • Now I say to those who aren't married and to widows--it's better to stay unmarried, just as I am. - 1 Corinthians 7:8


  • The church should care for any widow who has no one else to care for her. - 1 Timothy 5:3


  • But a woman who is a true widow, one who is truly alone in this world, has placed her hope in God. Night and day she asks God for help and spends much time in prayer. - 1 Timothy 5:5


  • But the widow who lives only for pleasure is spiritually dead. - 1 Timothy 5:6


  • Give these instructions to the church so that the widows you support* will not be criticized.2 - 1 Timothy 5:7


  • A widow who is put on the list for support must be a woman who is at least sixty years old and was faithful to her husband.*3 - 1 Timothy 5:9


  • The younger widows should not be on the list, because their physical desires will overpower their devotion to Christ and they will want to remarry. - 1 Timothy 5:11


  • So I advise these younger widows to marry again, have children, and take care of their own homes. Then the enemy will not be able to say anything against them. - 1 Timothy 5:14


  • If a Christian woman has relatives who are widows, she must take care of them and not put the responsibility on the church. Then the church can care for widows who are truly alone. - 1 Timothy 5:16
