(Read Tongues Part 1 First)

  • The parched tongues of their little ones stick with thirst to the roofs of their mouths. The children cry for bread, but no one has any to give them. - Lamentations 4:4

  • The rich among you have become wealthy through extortion and violence. Your citizens are so used to lying that their tongues can no longer tell the truth. - Micah 6:12

  • And the LORD will send a plague on all the nations that fought against Jerusalem. Their people will become like walking corpses, their flesh rotting away. Their eyes will shrivel in their sockets, and their tongues will decay in their mouths. - Zechariah 14:12

  • Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. - Acts 2:3

  • And there could be no doubt about it, for they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God. Then Peter asked, - Acts 10:46

  • Then when Paul laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in other tongues and prophesied. - Acts 19:6

  • For if your gift is the ability to speak in tongues,* you will be talking to God but not to people, since they won't be able to understand you. You will be speaking by the power of the Spirit, but it will all be mysterious.1 - 1 Corinthians 14:2

  • A person who speaks in tongues is strengthened personally in the Lord, but one who speaks a word of prophecy strengthens the entire church. - 1 Corinthians 14:4

  • I wish you all had the gift of speaking in tongues, but even more I wish you were all able to prophesy. For prophecy is a greater and more useful gift than speaking in tongues, unless someone interprets what you are saying so that the whole church can get some good out of it. - 1 Corinthians 14:5

  • So anyone who has the gift of speaking in tongues should pray also for the gift of interpretation in order to tell people plainly what has been said. - 1 Corinthians 14:13

  • For if I pray in tongues, my spirit is praying, but I don't understand what I am saying. - 1 Corinthians 14:14

  • I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you. - 1 Corinthians 14:18

  • So you see that speaking in tongues is a sign, not for believers, but for unbelievers; prophecy, however, is for the benefit of believers, not unbelievers. - 1 Corinthians 14:22

  • But if no one is present who can interpret, they must be silent in your church meeting and speak in tongues to God privately. - 1 Corinthians 14:28

  • So, dear brothers and sisters, be eager to prophesy, and don't forbid speaking in tongues. - 1 Corinthians 14:39

  • We all make many mistakes, but those who control their tongues can also control themselves in every other way. - James 3:2
