  • Some Pharisees and teachers of religious law now arrived from Jerusalem to interview Jesus. - Matthew 15:1


  • From then on Jesus began to tell his disciples plainly that he had to go to Jerusalem, and he told them what would happen to him there. He would suffer at the hands of the leaders and the leading priests and the teachers of religious law. He would be killed, and he would be raised on the third day. - Matthew 16:21


  • His disciples asked, "Why do the teachers of religious law insist that Elijah must return before the Messiah comes*?"2 - Matthew 17:10

You should tithe, yes, but you should not leave undone the more important things.5 - Matthew 23:23


  • "How terrible it will be for you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! You are so careful to clean the outside of the cup and the dish, but inside you are filthy--full of greed and self-indulgence! - Matthew 23:25


  • "How terrible it will be for you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs--beautiful on the outside but filled on the inside with dead people's bones and all sorts of impurity. - Matthew 23:27


  • "How terrible it will be for you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you build tombs for the prophets your ancestors killed and decorate the graves of the godly people your ancestors destroyed. - Matthew 23:29


  • I will send you prophets and wise men and teachers of religious law. You will kill some by crucifixion and whip others in your synagogues, chasing them from city to city. - Matthew 23:34


  • Then the people who had arrested Jesus led him to the home of Caiaphas, the high priest, where the teachers of religious law and other leaders had gathered. - Matthew 26:57


  • The leading priests, the teachers of religious law, and the other leaders also mocked Jesus. - Matthew 27:41


  • They were amazed at his teaching, for he taught as one who had real authority--quite unlike the teachers of religious law. - Mark 1:22
