(Read Spirit Part 1 First)

  • To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice; to another he gives the gift of special knowledge. - 1 Corinthians 12:8

  • The Spirit gives special faith to another, and to someone else he gives the power to heal the sick. - 1 Corinthians 12:9

  • He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and to another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to know whether it is really the Spirit of God or another spirit that is speaking. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages,* and another is given the ability to interpret what is being said.2 - 1 Corinthians 12:10

  • It is the one and only Holy Spirit who distributes these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have. - 1 Corinthians 12:11

  • Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptized into Christ's body by one Spirit, and we have all received the same Spirit.*3 - 1 Corinthians 12:13

  • Let love be your highest goal, but also desire the special abilities the Spirit gives, especially the gift of prophecy. - 1 Corinthians 14:1

  • For if your gift is the ability to speak in tongues,* you will be talking to God but not to people, since they won't be able to understand you. You will be speaking by the power of the Spirit, but it will all be mysterious.1 - 1 Corinthians 14:2

  • Since you are so eager to have spiritual gifts, ask God for those that will be of real help to the whole church. - 1 Corinthians 14:12

  • For if I pray in tongues, my spirit is praying, but I don't understand what I am saying. - 1 Corinthians 14:14

  • Well then, what shall I do? I will do both. I will pray in the spirit,* and I will pray in words I understand. I will sing in the spirit, and I will sing in words I understand.3 - 1 Corinthians 14:15

  • For if you praise God only in the spirit, how can those who don't understand you praise God along with you? How can they join you in giving thanks when they don't understand what you are saying? - 1 Corinthians 14:16

  • Remember that people who prophesy are in control of their spirit and can wait their turn. - 1 Corinthians 14:32

  • If you claim to be a prophet or think you are very spiritual, you should recognize that what I am saying is a command from the Lord himself. - 1 Corinthians 14:37

  • They are natural human bodies now, but when they are raised, they will be spiritual bodies. For just as there are natural bodies, so also there are spiritual bodies. - 1 Corinthians 15:44

  • The Scriptures tell us, "The first man, Adam, became a living person."* But the last Adam--that is, Christ--is a life-giving Spirit.2 - 1 Corinthians 15:45

  • What came first was the natural body, then the spiritual body comes later. - 1 Corinthians 15:46

  • and he has identified us as his own by placing the Holy Spirit in our hearts as the first installment of everything he will give us. - 2 Corinthians 1:22
