(Read Spirit Part 1 First)

  • We went ashore, found the local believers,* and stayed with them a week. These disciples prophesied through the Holy Spirit that Paul should not go on to Jerusalem.1 - Acts 21:4


  • When he visited us, he took Paul's belt and bound his own feet and hands with it. Then he said, "The Holy Spirit declares, `So shall the owner of this belt be bound by the Jewish leaders in Jerusalem and turned over to the Romans.' " - Acts 21:11


  • But after they had argued back and forth among themselves, they left with this final word from Paul: "The Holy Spirit was right when he said to our ancestors through Isaiah the prophet, - Acts 28:25


  • And Jesus Christ our Lord was shown to be the Son of God when God powerfully raised him from the dead by means of the Holy Spirit.*1 - Romans 1:4


  • For I long to visit you so I can share a spiritual blessing with you that will help you grow strong in the Lord. - Romans 1:11


  • No, a true Jew is one whose heart is right with God. And true circumcision is not a cutting of the body but a change of heart produced by God's Spirit. Whoever has that kind of change seeks praise from God, not from people. - Romans 2:29


  • The circumcision ceremony was a sign that Abraham already had faith and that God had already accepted him and declared him to be righteous--even before he was circumcised. So Abraham is the spiritual father of those who have faith but have not been circumcised. They are made right with God by faith. - Romans 4:11


  • And Abraham is also the spiritual father of those who have been circumcised, but only if they have the same kind of faith Abraham had before he was circumcised. - Romans 4:12


  • And this expectation will not disappoint us. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love. - Romans 5:5


  • But now we have been released from the law, for we died with Christ, and we are no longer captive to its power. Now we can really serve God, not in the old way by obeying the letter of the law, but in the new way, by the Spirit. - Romans 7:6


  • For the power* of the life-giving Spirit has freed you* through Christ Jesus from the power of sin that leads to death.1 - Romans 8:2


  • He did this so that the requirement of the law would be fully accomplished for us* who no longer follow our sinful nature but instead follow the Spirit.2 - Romans 8:4


  • Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. - Romans 8:5


  • If your sinful nature controls your mind, there is death. But if the Holy Spirit controls your mind, there is life and peace. - Romans 8:6


  • But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. (And remember that those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in them are not Christians at all.) - Romans 8:9


  • Since Christ lives within you, even though your body will die because of sin, your spirit is alive* because you have been made right with God.3 - Romans 8:10


  • The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as he raised Christ from the dead, he will give life to your mortal body by this same Spirit living within you. - Romans 8:11
