  • "And this is what the LORD says about the king of Assyria: His armies will not enter Jerusalem to shoot their arrows. They will not march outside its gates with their shields and build banks of earth against its walls. - 2 Kings 19:32


  • There were 44,760 skilled warriors in the armies of Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh. They were all skilled in combat and armed with shields, swords, and bows. - 1 Chronicles 5:18


  • Some brave and experienced warriors from the tribe of Gad also defected to David while he was at the stronghold in the wilderness. They were expert with both shield and spear, as fierce as lions and as swift as deer on the mountains. - 1 Chronicles 12:8


  • From the tribe of Judah, there were 6,800 warriors armed with shields and spears. - 1 Chronicles 12:24

  • He also put shields and spears in these towns as a further safety measure. So only Judah and Benjamin remained under his control. - 2 Chronicles 11:12


  • So King Shishak of Egypt came to Jerusalem and took away all the treasures of the Temple of the LORD and of the royal palace, including all of Solomon's gold shields. - 2 Chronicles 12:9


  • King Rehoboam later replaced them with bronze shields and entrusted them to the care of the captain of his bodyguard. - 2 Chronicles 12:10


  • King Asa had an army of 300,000 warriors from the tribe of Judah, armed with large shields and spears. He also had an army of 280,000 warriors from the tribe of Benjamin, armed with small shields and bows. Both armies were composed of courageous fighting men. - 2 Chronicles 14:8


  • From Benjamin, there were 200,000 troops equipped with bows and shields. They were under the command of Eliada, a veteran soldier. - 2 Chronicles 17:17

  • Then Hezekiah further strengthened his defenses by repairing the wall wherever it was broken down and by adding to the fortifications and constructing a second wall outside the first.
