  • The righteous pass away; the godly often die before their time. And no one seems to care or wonder why. No one seems to understand that God is protecting them from the evil to come. - Isaiah 57:1


  • "Now I will expose your so-called good deeds that you consider so righteous. None of them will benefit or save you. - Isaiah 57:12


  • Yet they act so pious! They come to the Temple every day and seem delighted to hear my laws. You would almost think this was a righteous nation that would never abandon its God. They love to make a show of coming to me and asking me to take action on their behalf. - Isaiah 58:2


  • Our courts oppose people who are righteous, and justice is nowhere to be found. Truth falls dead in the streets, and fairness has been outlawed. - Isaiah 59:14


  • All your people will be righteous. They will possess their land forever, for I will plant them there with my own hands in order to bring myself glory. - Isaiah 60:21


  • We are all infected and impure with sin. When we proudly display our righteous deeds, we find they are but filthy rags. Like autumn leaves, we wither and fall. And our sins, like the wind, sweep us away. - Isaiah 64:6


  • Let them boast in this alone: that they truly know me and understand that I am the LORD who is just and righteous, whose love is unfailing, and that I delight in these things. I, the LORD, have spoken! - Jeremiah 9:24

  • At that time I will bring to the throne of David a righteous descendant,* and he will do what is just and right throughout the land.3 - Jeremiah 33:15


  • You have discouraged the righteous with your lies, when I didn't want them to suffer grief. And you have encouraged the wicked by promising them life, even though they continue in their sins. - Ezekiel 13:22


  • "Even Samaria did not commit half your sins. You have done far more loathsome things than your sisters ever did. They seem righteous compared to you! - Ezekiel 16:51


  • The one who sins is the one who dies. The child will not be punished for the parent's sins, and the parent will not be punished for the child's sins. Righteous people will be rewarded for their own goodness, and wicked people will be punished for their own wickedness. - Ezekiel 18:20


  • All their past sins will be forgotten, and they will live because of the righteous things they have done. - Ezekiel 18:22


  • However, if righteous people turn to sinful ways and start acting like other sinners, should they be allowed to live? No, of course not! All their previous goodness will be forgotten, and they will die for their sins. - Ezekiel 18:24


  • When righteous people turn from being good and start doing sinful things, they will die for it. Yes, they will die because of their sinful deeds. - Ezekiel 18:26
