  • He called a meeting of the leading priests and teachers of religious law. "Where did the prophets say the Messiah would be born?" he asked them. - Matthew 2:4


  • Then Jesus said to him, "Go right over to the priest and let him examine you. Don't talk to anyone along the way. Take along the offering required in the law of Moses for those who have been healed of leprosy, so everyone will have proof of your healing." - Matthew 8:4


  • He went into the house of God, and they ate the special bread reserved for the priests alone. That was breaking the law, too. - Matthew 12:4


  • And haven't you ever read in the law of Moses that the priests on duty in the Temple may work on the Sabbath? - Matthew 12:5


  • From then on Jesus began to tell his disciples plainly that he had to go to Jerusalem, and he told them what would happen to him there. He would suffer at the hands of the leaders and the leading priests and the teachers of religious law. He would be killed, and he would be raised on the third day. - Matthew 16:21


  • "When we get to Jerusalem," he said, "the Son of Man will be betrayed to the leading priests and the teachers of religious law. They will sentence him to die. - Matthew 20:18


  • The leading priests and the teachers of religious law saw these wonderful miracles and heard even the little children in the Temple shouting, "Praise God for the Son of David." But they were indignant - Matthew 21:15


  • When Jesus returned to the Temple and began teaching, the leading priests and other leaders came up to him. They demanded, "By whose authority did you drive out the merchants from the Temple?* Who gave you such authority?"6 - Matthew 21:23

  • Then the people who had arrested Jesus led him to the home of Caiaphas, the high priest, where the teachers of religious law and other leaders had gathered. - Matthew 26:57


  • Meanwhile, Peter was following far behind and eventually came to the courtyard of the high priest's house. He went in, sat with the guards, and waited to see what was going to happen to Jesus. - Matthew 26:58


  • Inside, the leading priests and the entire high council* were trying to find witnesses who would lie about Jesus, so they could put him to death.3 - Matthew 26:59


  • Then the high priest stood up and said to Jesus, "Well, aren't you going to answer these charges? What do you have to say for yourself?" - Matthew 26:62
