(Read Peter Part 1 First)

  • Now I say to you that you are Peter,* and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell* will not conquer it.4 - Matthew 16:18

  • But Peter took him aside and corrected him. "Heaven forbid, Lord," he said. "This will never happen to you!" - Matthew 16:22

  • Jesus turned to Peter and said, "Get away from me, Satan! You are a dangerous trap to me. You are seeing things merely from a human point of view, and not from God's." - Matthew 16:23

  • Six days later Jesus took Peter and the two brothers, James and John, and led them up a high mountain. - Matthew 17:1

  • Peter blurted out, "Lord, this is wonderful! If you want me to, I'll make three shrines,* one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah."1 - Matthew 17:4

  • On their arrival in Capernaum, the tax collectors for the Temple tax came to Peter and asked him, "Doesn't your teacher pay the Temple tax?" - Matthew 17:24

  • "Of course he does," Peter replied. Then he went into the house to talk to Jesus about it. But before he had a chance to speak, Jesus asked him, "What do you think, Peter*? Do kings tax their own people or the foreigners they have conquered?"4 - Matthew 17:25

  • "They tax the foreigners," Peter replied. "Well, then," Jesus said, "the citizens are free! - Matthew 17:26

  • Then Peter came to him and asked, "Lord, how often should I forgive someone* who sins against me? Seven times?"5 - Matthew 18:21

  • Then Peter said to him, "We've given up everything to follow you. What will we get out of it?" - Matthew 19:27

  • Peter declared, "Even if everyone else deserts you, I never will." - Matthew 26:33

  • "No!" Peter insisted. "Not even if I have to die with you! I will never deny you!" And all the other disciples vowed the same. - Matthew 26:35

  • He took Peter and Zebedee's two sons, James and John, and he began to be filled with anguish and deep distress. - Matthew 26:37

  • Then he returned to the disciples and found them asleep. He said to Peter, "Couldn't you stay awake and watch with me even one hour? - Matthew 26:40

  • Meanwhile, Peter was following far behind and eventually came to the courtyard of the high priest's house. He went in, sat with the guards, and waited to see what was going to happen to Jesus. - Matthew 26:58

  • Meanwhile, as Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard, a servant girl came over and said to him, "You were one of those with Jesus the Galilean." - Matthew 26:69

  • But Peter denied it in front of everyone. "I don't know what you are talking about," he said. - Matthew 26:70
