  • But King Neco sent ambassadors to Josiah with this message: "What do you want with me, king of Judah? I have no quarrel with you today! I only want to fight the nation with which I am at war. And God has told me to hurry! Do not interfere with God, who is with me, or he will destroy you." - 2 Chronicles 35:21


  • All the leaders of the priests and the people became more and more unfaithful. They followed the pagan practices of the surrounding nations, desecrating the Temple of the LORD in Jerusalem. - 2 Chronicles 36:14


  • May the God who has chosen the city of Jerusalem as the place to honor his name destroy any king or nation that violates this command and destroys this Temple. I, Darius, have issued this decree. Let it be obeyed with all diligence." - Ezra 6:12


  • You told us not to let our daughters marry their sons, and not to let our sons marry their daughters, and not to help those nations in any way. You promised that if we avoided these things, we would become a prosperous nation. You promised that we would enjoy the good produce of the land and leave this prosperity to our children as an inheritance forever. - Ezra 9:12

  • "Wasn't this exactly what led King Solomon of Israel into sin?" I demanded. "There was no king from any nation who could compare to him, and God loved him and made him king over all Israel. But even he was led into sin by his foreign wives. - Nehemiah 13:26


  • Esther had not told anyone of her nationality and family background, for Mordecai had told her not to. - Esther 2:10


  • Esther continued to keep her nationality and family background a secret. She was still following Mordecai's orders, just as she did when she was living in his home. - Esther 2:20

  • The king's decree gave the Jews in every city authority to unite to defend their lives. They were allowed to kill, slaughter, and annihilate anyone of any nationality or province who might attack them or their children and wives, and to take the property of their enemies. - Esther 8:11


  • He raises up nations, and he destroys them. He makes nations expand, and he abandons them. - Job 12:23


  • Why do the nations rage? Why do the people waste their time with futile plans? - Psalms 2:1


  • Only ask, and I will give you the nations as your inheritance, the ends of the earth as your possession. - Psalms 2:8
