  • This was the testimony of John when the Jewish leaders sent priests and Temple assistants* from Jerusalem to ask John whether he claimed to be the Messiah.4 - John 1:19


  • He flatly denied it. "I am not the Messiah," he said. - John 1:20


  • asked him, "If you aren't the Messiah or Elijah or the Prophet, what right do you have to baptize?" - John 1:25


  • The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother, Simon, and tell him, "We have found the Messiah" (which means the Christ). - John 1:41


  • Because of the miraculous signs he did in Jerusalem at the Passover celebration, many people were convinced that he was indeed the Messiah. - John 2:23


  • John's disciples came to him and said, "Teacher, the man you met on the other side of the Jordan River, the one you said was the Messiah, is also baptizing people. And everybody is going over there instead of coming here to us." - John 3:26


  • You yourselves know how plainly I told you that I am not the Messiah. I am here to prepare the way for him--that is all. - John 3:28


  • The woman said, "I know the Messiah will come--the one who is called Christ. When he comes, he will explain everything to us." - John 4:25


  • Then Jesus told her, "I am the Messiah!"*3 - John 4:26


  • "Come and meet a man who told me everything I ever did! Can this be the Messiah?" - John 4:29


  • But here he is, speaking in public, and they say nothing to him. Can it be that our leaders know that he really is the Messiah? - John 7:26


  • But how could he be? For we know where this man comes from. When the Messiah comes, he will simply appear; no one will know where he comes from." - John 7:27


  • Many among the crowds at the Temple believed in him. "After all," they said, "would you expect the Messiah to do more miraculous signs than this man has done?" - John 7:31


  • Others said, "He is the Messiah." Still others said, "But he can't be! Will the Messiah come from Galilee? - John 7:41


  • For the Scriptures clearly state that the Messiah will be born of the royal line of David, in Bethlehem, the village where King David was born."*4 - John 7:42


  • They said this because they were afraid of the Jewish leaders, who had announced that anyone saying Jesus was the Messiah would be expelled from the synagogue. - John 9:22


  • The Jewish leaders surrounded him and asked, "How long are you going to keep us in suspense? If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly." - John 10:24
