  • As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a village where a woman named Martha welcomed them into her home. - Luke 10:38

  • But Martha was worrying over the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, "Lord, doesn't it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me." - Luke 10:40

  • But the Lord said to her, "My dear Martha, you are so upset over all these details! - Luke 10:41

  • A man named Lazarus was sick. He lived in Bethany with his sisters, Mary and Martha. - John 11:1

  • Although Jesus loved Martha, Mary, and Lazarus, - John 11:5

  • and many of the people* had come to pay their respects and console Martha and Mary on their loss.4 - John 11:19

  • When Martha got word that Jesus was coming, she went to meet him. But Mary stayed at home. - John 11:20

  • Martha said to Jesus, "Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. - John 11:21

  • "Yes," Martha said, "when everyone else rises, on resurrection day." - John 11:24

  • They are given eternal life for believing in me and will never perish. Do you believe this, Martha?" - John 11:26

  • Now Jesus had stayed outside the village, at the place where Martha met him. - John 11:30

  • "Roll the stone aside," Jesus told them. But Martha, the dead man's sister, said, "Lord, by now the smell will be terrible because he has been dead for four days." - John 11:39

  • A dinner was prepared in Jesus' honor. Martha served, and Lazarus sat at the table with him. - John 12:2
