  • While Jesus was teaching in the Temple, he called out, "Yes, you know me, and you know where I come from. But I represent one you don't know, and he is true. - John 7:28


  • When the Pharisees heard that the crowds were murmuring such things, they and the leading priests sent Temple guards to arrest Jesus. - John 7:32


  • But Jesus told them, "I will be here a little longer. Then I will return to the one who sent me. - John 7:33


  • On the last day, the climax of the festival, Jesus stood and shouted to the crowds, "If you are thirsty, come to me!1 - John 7:37


  • (When he said "living water," he was speaking of the Spirit, who would be given to everyone believing in him. But the Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus had not yet entered into his glory.) - John 7:39


  • Nicodemus, the leader who had met with Jesus earlier, then spoke up. - John 7:50


  • Jesus returned to the Mount of Olives, - John 8:1


  • "Teacher," they said to Jesus, "this woman was caught in the very act of adultery. - John 8:4


  • They were trying to trap him into saying something they could use against him, but Jesus stooped down and wrote in the dust with his finger. - John 8:6


  • When the accusers heard this, they slipped away one by one, beginning with the oldest, until only Jesus was left in the middle of the crowd with the woman. - John 8:9


  • Then Jesus stood up again and said to her, "Where are your accusers? Didn't even one of them condemn you?" - John 8:10


  • "No, Lord," she said. And Jesus said, "Neither do I. Go and sin no more." - John 8:11


  • Jesus said to the people, "I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won't be stumbling through the darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life." - John 8:12


  • Jesus told them, "These claims are valid even though I make them about myself. For I know where I came from and where I am going, but you don't know this about me. - John 8:14


  • "Where is your father?" they asked. Jesus answered, "Since you don't know who I am, you don't know who my Father is. If you knew me, then you would know my Father, too." - John 8:19


  • Jesus made these statements while he was teaching in the section of the Temple known as the Treasury. But he was not arrested, because his time had not yet come. - John 8:20


  • Later Jesus said to them again, "I am going away. You will search for me and die in your sin. You cannot come where I am going." - John 8:21
