(Read Jesus Part 1 First)

  • When the teachers of religious law and the leading priests heard this story, they wanted to arrest Jesus immediately because they realized he was pointing at them--that they were the farmers in the story. But they were afraid there would be a riot if they arrested him. - Luke 20:19

  • Watching for their opportunity, the leaders sent secret agents pretending to be honest men. They tried to get Jesus to say something that could be reported to the Roman governor so he would arrest Jesus. - Luke 20:20

  • Jesus replied, "Marriage is for people here on earth. - Luke 20:34

  • Then Jesus presented them with a question. "Why is it," he asked, "that the Messiah is said to be the son of David? - Luke 20:41

  • While Jesus was in the Temple, he watched the rich people putting their gifts into the collection box. - Luke 21:1

  • Some of his disciples began talking about the beautiful stonework of the Temple and the memorial decorations on the walls. But Jesus said, - Luke 21:5

  • Every day Jesus went to the Temple to teach, and each evening he returned to spend the night on the Mount of Olives. - Luke 21:37

  • The leading priests and teachers of religious law were actively plotting Jesus' murder. But they wanted to kill him without starting a riot, a possibility they greatly feared. - Luke 22:2

  • and he went over to the leading priests and captains of the Temple guard to discuss the best way to betray Jesus to them. - Luke 22:4

  • So he began looking for an opportunity to betray Jesus so they could arrest him quietly when the crowds weren't around. - Luke 22:6

  • Jesus sent Peter and John ahead and said, "Go and prepare the Passover meal, so we can eat it together." - Luke 22:8

  • They went off to the city and found everything just as Jesus had said, and they prepared the Passover supper there. - Luke 22:13

  • Then at the proper time Jesus and the twelve apostles sat down together at the table. - Luke 22:14

  • Jesus said, "I have looked forward to this hour with deep longing, anxious to eat this Passover meal with you before my suffering begins. - Luke 22:15

  • And Jesus replied, "I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise." - Luke 23:43

  • Then Jesus shouted, "Father, I entrust my spirit into your hands!"* And with those words he breathed his last.1 - Luke 23:46

  • But Jesus' friends, including the women who had followed him from Galilee, stood at a distance watching. - Luke 23:49
