  • When the Devil had finished tempting Jesus, he left him until the next opportunity came. - Luke 4:13


  • Then Jesus returned to Galilee, filled with the Holy Spirit's power. Soon he became well known throughout the surrounding country. - Luke 4:14


  • Then Jesus went to Capernaum, a town in Galilee, and taught there in the synagogue every Sabbath day. - Luke 4:31


  • Once when he was in the synagogue, a man possessed by a demon began shouting at Jesus, - Luke 4:33


  • "Go away! Why are you bothering us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are--the Holy One sent from God." - Luke 4:34


  • Jesus cut him short. "Be silent!" he told the demon. "Come out of the man!" The demon threw the man to the floor as the crowd watched; then it left him without hurting him further. - Luke 4:35


  • After leaving the synagogue that day, Jesus went to Simon's home, where he found Simon's mother-in-law very sick with a high fever. "Please heal her," everyone begged. - Luke 4:38


  • As the sun went down that evening, people throughout the village brought sick family members to Jesus. No matter what their diseases were, the touch of his hand healed every one. - Luke 4:40


  • Early the next morning Jesus went out into the wilderness. The crowds searched everywhere for him, and when they finally found him, they begged him not to leave them. - Luke 4:42


  • One day as Jesus was preaching on the shore of the Sea of Galilee,* great crowds pressed in on him to listen to the word of God.1 - Luke 5:1


  • Stepping into one of the boats, Jesus asked Simon,* its owner, to push it out into the water. So he sat in the boat and taught the crowds from there.2 - Luke 5:3


  • When Simon Peter realized what had happened, he fell to his knees before Jesus and said, "Oh, Lord, please leave me--I'm too much of a sinner to be around you." - Luke 5:8


  • His partners, James and John, the sons of Zebedee, were also amazed. Jesus replied to Simon, "Don't be afraid! From now on you'll be fishing for people!" - Luke 5:10


  • And as soon as they landed, they left everything and followed Jesus. - Luke 5:11


  • In one of the villages, Jesus met a man with an advanced case of leprosy. When the man saw Jesus, he fell to the ground, face down in the dust, begging to be healed. "Lord," he said, "if you want to, you can make me well again." - Luke 5:12


  • Jesus reached out and touched the man. "I want to," he said. "Be healed!" And instantly the leprosy disappeared. - Luke 5:13


  • Then Jesus instructed him not to tell anyone what had happened. He said, "Go right to the priest and let him examine you. Take along the offering required in the law of Moses for those who have been healed of leprosy, so everyone will have proof of your healing." - Luke 5:14
