(Read Jesus Part 1 First)
Jesus turned to Peter and said, "Get away from me, Satan! You are a dangerous trap to me. You are seeing things merely from a human point of view, and not from God's." - Matthew 16:23
Then Jesus said to the disciples, "If any of you wants to be my follower, you must put aside your selfish ambition, shoulder your cross, and follow me. - Matthew 16:24
Six days later Jesus took Peter and the two brothers, James and John, and led them up a high mountain. - Matthew 17:1
As the men watched, Jesus' appearance changed so that his face shone like the sun, and his clothing became dazzling white. - Matthew 17:2
Suddenly, Moses and Elijah appeared and began talking with Jesus. - Matthew 17:3
Jesus came over and touched them. "Get up," he said, "don't be afraid." - Matthew 17:7
And when they looked, they saw only Jesus with them. - Matthew 17:8
As they descended the mountain, Jesus commanded them, "Don't tell anyone what you have seen until I, the Son of Man, have been raised from the dead." - Matthew 17:9
Jesus replied, "Elijah is indeed coming first to set everything in order. - Matthew 17:11
When they arrived at the foot of the mountain, a huge crowd was waiting for them. A man came and knelt before Jesus and said, - Matthew 17:14
Jesus replied, "You stubborn, faithless people! How long must I be with you until you believe? How long must I put up with you? Bring the boy to me." - Matthew 17:17
Then Jesus rebuked the demon in the boy, and it left him. From that moment the boy was well. - Matthew 17:18
Afterward the disciples asked Jesus privately, "Why couldn't we cast out that demon?" - Matthew 17:19
"You didn't have enough faith," Jesus told them. "I assure you, even if you had faith as small as a mustard seed you could say to this mountain, `Move from here to there,' and it would move. Nothing would be impossible."*3 - Matthew 17:20
One day after they had returned to Galilee, Jesus told them, "The Son of Man is going to be betrayed. - Matthew 17:22
"Of course he does," Peter replied. Then he went into the house to talk to Jesus about it. But before he had a chance to speak, Jesus asked him, "What do you think, Peter*? Do kings tax their own people or the foreigners they have conquered?"4 - Matthew 17:25
"They tax the foreigners," Peter replied. "Well, then," Jesus said, "the citizens are free! - Matthew 17:26
