  • Jesse's three oldest sons--Eliab, Abinadab, and Shammah--had already joined Saul's army to fight the Philistines. - 1 Samuel 17:13


  • David was the youngest of Jesse's sons. Since David's three oldest brothers were in the army, they stayed with Saul's forces all the time. - 1 Samuel 17:14


  • One day Jesse said to David, "Take this half-bushel* of roasted grain and these ten loaves of bread to your brothers.4 - 1 Samuel 17:17


  • "Tell me about your father, my boy," Saul said. And David replied, "His name is Jesse, and we live in Bethlehem." - 1 Samuel 17:58


  • But when David's place was empty again the next day, Saul asked Jonathan, "Why hasn't the son of Jesse been here for dinner either yesterday or today?" - 1 Samuel 20:27


  • As long as that son of Jesse is alive, you'll never be king. Now go and get him so I can kill him!" - 1 Samuel 20:31

  • When all Israel realized that the king had rejected their request, they shouted, "Down with David and his dynasty! We have no share in Jesse's son! Let's go home, Israel! Look out for your own house, O David!" So the people of Israel returned home. - 1 Kings 12:16


  • Boaz was the father of Obed. Obed was the father of Jesse. - 1 Chronicles 2:12


  • Jesse's first son was Eliab, his second was Abinadab, his third was Shimea, - 1 Chronicles 2:13


  • instead of asking the LORD for guidance. So the LORD killed him and turned his kingdom over to David son of Jesse. - 1 Chronicles 10:14


  • Then the Spirit came upon Amasai, who later became a leader among the Thirty, and he said, "We are yours, David! We are on your side, son of Jesse. Peace and prosperity be with you, and success to all who help you, for your God is the one who helps you." So David let them join him, and he made them officers over his troops. - 1 Chronicles 12:18


  • So David son of Jesse reigned over all Israel. - 1 Chronicles 29:26

  • Rehoboam married his cousin Mahalath, the daughter of David's son Jerimoth and of Abihail, the daughter of Eliab. (Eliab was one of David's brothers, a son of Jesse.) - 2 Chronicles 11:18
