  • But Saul refused. The men who were with him also urged him to eat, so he finally yielded and got up from the ground and sat on the couch. - 1 Samuel 28:23


  • Three days later, when David and his men arrived home at their town of Ziklag, they found that the Amalekites had made a raid into the Negev and had burned Ziklag to the ground. - 1 Samuel 30:1


  • On the third day after David's return, a man arrived from the Israelite battlefront. He had torn his clothes and put dirt on his head to show that he was in mourning. He fell to the ground before David in deep respect. - 2 Samuel 1:2

  • Amasa didn't notice the dagger in his left hand, and Joab stabbed him in the stomach with it so that his insides gushed out onto the ground. Joab did not need to strike again, and Amasa soon died. Joab and his brother Abishai left him lying there and continued after Sheba. - 2 Samuel 20:10


  • I ground them as fine as the dust of the earth; I swept them into the gutter like dirt. - 2 Samuel 22:43


  • but Shammah held his ground in the middle of the field and beat back the Philistines. So the LORD brought about a great victory. - 2 Samuel 23:12


  • There was also Benaiah son of Jehoiada, a valiant warrior from Kabzeel. He did many heroic deeds, which included killing two of Moab's mightiest warriors. Another time he chased a lion down into a pit. Then, despite the snow and slippery ground, he caught the lion and killed it. - 2 Samuel 23:20
