(Read Father Part 1 First)

  • Joseph threw himself on his father and wept over him and kissed him. - Genesis 50:1

  • He told them, "Tell Pharaoh that my father made me swear an oath. He said to me, `I am about to die; take my body back to the land of Canaan, and bury me in our family's burial cave.' Now I need to go and bury my father. After his burial is complete, I will return without delay." - Genesis 50:5

  • Pharaoh agreed to Joseph's request. "Go and bury your father, as you promised," he said. - Genesis 50:6

  • When they arrived at the threshing floor of Atad, near the Jordan River, they held a very great and solemn funeral, with a seven-day period of mourning for Joseph's father. - Genesis 50:10

  • Then Joseph returned to Egypt with his brothers and all who had accompanied him to his father's funeral. - Genesis 50:14

  • But now that their father was dead, Joseph's brothers became afraid. "Now Joseph will pay us back for all the evil we did to him," they said. - Genesis 50:15

  • So they sent this message to Joseph: "Before your father died, he instructed us - Genesis 50:16

  • to say to you: `Forgive your brothers for the great evil they did to you.' So we, the servants of the God of your father, beg you to forgive us." When Joseph received the message, he broke down and wept. - Genesis 50:17

  • These are the sons of Jacob* who went with their father to Egypt, each with his family:1 - Exodus 1:1

  • Now it happened that the priest of Midian had seven daughters who came regularly to this well to draw water and fill the water troughs for their father's flocks. - Exodus 2:16

  • When the girls returned to Reuel, their father, he asked, "How did you get the flocks watered so quickly today?" - Exodus 2:18

  • "Well, where is he then?" their father asked. "Did you just leave him there? Go and invite him home for a meal!" - Exodus 2:20

  • These are the descendants of Levi, listed according to their family groups. In the first generation were Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. (Levi, their father, lived to be 137 years old.) - Exodus 6:16

  • Amram married his father's sister Jochebed, and she bore him Aaron and Moses. (Amram lived to be 137 years old.) - Exodus 6:20

  • The LORD is my strength and my song; he has become my victory. He is my God, and I will praise him; he is my father's God, and I will exalt him! - Exodus 15:2

  • The name of his second son was Eliezer,* for Moses had said at his birth, "The God of my fathers was my helper; he delivered me from the sword of Pharaoh."2 - Exodus 18:4

  • "Honor your father and mother. Then you will live a long, full life in the land the LORD your God will give you. - Exodus 20:12
