  • Some of the bystanders misunderstood and thought he was calling for the prophet Elijah. - Matthew 27:47


  • But the rest said, "Leave him alone. Let's see whether Elijah will come and save him."*3 - Matthew 27:49


  • Others thought Jesus was the ancient prophet Elijah. Still others thought he was a prophet like the other great prophets of the past. - Mark 6:15


  • "Well," they replied, "some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say you are one of the other prophets." - Mark 8:28


  • Then Elijah and Moses appeared and began talking with Jesus. - Mark 9:4


  • "Teacher, this is wonderful!" Peter exclaimed. "We will make three shrines*--one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah."1 - Mark 9:5


  • Suddenly they looked around, and Moses and Elijah were gone, and only Jesus was with them. - Mark 9:8


  • Now they began asking him, "Why do the teachers of religious law insist that Elijah must return before the Messiah comes?" - Mark 9:11

  • One of them ran and filled a sponge with sour wine, holding it up to him on a stick so he could drink. "Leave him alone. Let's see whether Elijah will come and take him down!" he said. - Mark 15:36


  • He will be a man with the spirit and power of Elijah, the prophet of old. He will precede the coming of the Lord, preparing the people for his arrival. He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and he will change disobedient minds to accept godly wisdom."*3 - Luke 1:17


  • "Certainly there were many widows in Israel who needed help in Elijah's time, when there was no rain for three and a half years and hunger stalked the land. - Luke 4:25


  • Yet Elijah was not sent to any of them. He was sent instead to a widow of Zarephath--a foreigner in the land of Sidon. - Luke 4:26


  • Others were saying, "It is Elijah or some other ancient prophet risen from the dead." - Luke 9:8


  • "Well," they replied, "some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say you are one of the other ancient prophets risen from the dead." - Luke 9:19


  • Then two men, Moses and Elijah, appeared and began talking with Jesus. - Luke 9:30
