(Read David Part 1 First)

  • David said to Araunah, "Let me buy this threshing floor from you at its full price. Then I will build an altar to the LORD there, so that he will stop the plague." - 1 Chronicles 21:22

  • "Take it, my lord, and use it as you wish," Araunah said to David. "Here are oxen for the burnt offerings, and you can use the threshing tools for wood to build a fire on the altar. And take the wheat for the grain offering. I will give it all to you." - 1 Chronicles 21:23

  • So David gave Araunah six hundred pieces of gold* in payment for the threshing floor.1 - 1 Chronicles 21:25

  • David built an altar there to the LORD and sacrificed burnt offerings and peace offerings. And when David prayed, the LORD answered him by sending fire from heaven to burn up the offering on the altar. - 1 Chronicles 21:26

  • When David saw that the LORD had answered his prayer, he offered sacrifices there at Araunah's threshing floor. - 1 Chronicles 21:28

  • But David was not able to go there to inquire of God, because he was terrified by the drawn sword of the angel of the LORD. - 1 Chronicles 21:30

  • Then David said, "This will be the location for the Temple of the LORD God and the place of the altar for Israel's burnt offerings!" - 1 Chronicles 22:1

  • So David gave orders to call together the foreigners living in Israel, and he assigned them the task of preparing blocks of stone for building the Temple of God. - 1 Chronicles 22:2

  • David provided large amounts of iron for the nails that would be needed for the doors in the gates and for the clamps, and more bronze than they could ever weigh. - 1 Chronicles 22:3

  • He also provided innumerable cedar logs, for the men of Tyre and Sidon had brought vast amounts of cedar to David. - 1 Chronicles 22:4

  • David said, "My son Solomon is still young and inexperienced, and the Temple of the LORD must be a magnificent structure, famous and glorious throughout the world. So I will begin making preparations for it now." So David collected vast amounts of building materials before his death. - 1 Chronicles 22:5

  • Then David sent for his son Solomon and instructed him to build a Temple for the LORD, the God of Israel. - 1 Chronicles 22:6

  • "I wanted to build a Temple to honor the name of the LORD my God," David told him. - 1 Chronicles 22:7

  • Then David ordered all the leaders of Israel to assist Solomon in this project. - 1 Chronicles 22:17

  • When David was an old man, he appointed his son Solomon to be king over Israel. - 1 Chronicles 23:1

  • David summoned all the political leaders of Israel, together with the priests and Levites, for the coronation ceremony. - 1 Chronicles 23:2

  • Then David said, "Twenty-four thousand of them will supervise the work at the Temple of the LORD. Six thousand are to serve as officials and judges. - 1 Chronicles 23:4
