  • This is how it must be done. Creditors must cancel the loans they have made to their fellow Israelites. They must not demand payment from their neighbors or relatives, for the LORD's time of release has arrived. - Deuteronomy 15:2


  • One day the widow of one of Elisha's fellow prophets came to Elisha and cried out to him, "My husband who served you is dead, and you know how he feared the LORD. But now a creditor has come, threatening to take my two sons as slaves." - 2 Kings 4:1


  • May creditors seize his entire estate, and strangers take all he has earned. - Psalms 109:11


  • The LORD asks, "Did I sell you as slaves to my creditors? Is that why you are not here? Is your mother gone because I divorced her and sent her away? No, you went away as captives because of your sins. And your mother, too, was taken because of your sins. - Isaiah 50:1


  • Suppose he is a merciful creditor, not keeping the items given in pledge by poor debtors, and does not rob the poor but instead gives food to the hungry and provides clothes for people in need. - Ezekiel 18:7


  • But his creditor wouldn't wait. He had the man arrested and jailed until the debt could be paid in full. - Matthew 18:30
