(Read Brother Part 1 First)

  • If a man marries his brother's wife, it is an act of impurity. He has violated his brother, and the guilty couple will remain childless. - Leviticus 20:21

  • unless it is a close relative--mother or father, son or daughter, brother - Leviticus 21:2

  • even if their own father, mother, brother, or sister has died. They must not defile the hair on their head, because it is the symbol of their separation to God. - Numbers 6:7

  • One day Moses said to his brother-in-law, Hobab son of Reuel the Midianite, "We are on our way to the Promised Land. Come with us and we will treat you well, for the LORD has given wonderful promises to Israel!" - Numbers 10:29

  • And if he has no daughters, turn his inheritance over to his brothers. - Numbers 27:9

  • "Suppose your brother, son, daughter, beloved wife, or closest friend comes to you secretly and says, `Let us go worship other gods'--gods that neither you nor your ancestors have known. - Deuteronomy 13:6

  • "If two brothers are living together on the same property and one of them dies without a son, his widow must not marry outside the family. Instead, her husband's brother must marry her and fulfill the duties of a brother-in-law. - Deuteronomy 25:5

  • The first son she bears to him will be counted as the son of the dead brother, so that his name will not be forgotten in Israel. - Deuteronomy 25:6

  • But if the dead man's brother refuses to marry the widow, she must go to the town gate and say to the leaders there, `My husband's brother refuses to preserve his brother's name in Israel--he refuses to marry me.' - Deuteronomy 25:7

  • the widow must walk over to him in the presence of the leaders, pull his sandal from his foot, and spit in his face. She will then say, `This is what happens to a man who refuses to raise up a son for his brother.' - Deuteronomy 25:9

  • The most tenderhearted man among you will have no compassion for his own brother, his beloved wife, and his surviving children. - Deuteronomy 28:54
