  • Joab, Abishai, and Asahel, the three sons of Zeruiah, were among David's forces that day. Asahel could run like a deer, - 2 Samuel 2:18


  • When Abner looked back and saw him coming, he called out, "Is that you, Asahel?" "Yes, it is," he replied. - 2 Samuel 2:20


  • "Go fight someone else!" Abner warned. "Take on one of the younger men and strip him of his weapons." But Asahel refused and kept right on chasing Abner. - 2 Samuel 2:21


  • But Asahel would not give up, so Abner thrust the butt end of his spear through Asahel's stomach, and the spear came out through his back. He stumbled to the ground and died there. And everyone who came by that spot stopped and stood still when they saw Asahel lying there. - 2 Samuel 2:23


  • Meanwhile, Joab and his men also returned home. When Joab counted his casualties, he discovered that only nineteen men were missing, in addition to Asahel. - 2 Samuel 2:30


  • Joab and his men took Asahel's body to Bethlehem and buried him there beside his father. Then they traveled all night and reached Hebron at daybreak. - 2 Samuel 2:32


  • When Abner arrived at Hebron, Joab took him aside at the gateway as if to speak with him privately. But then he drew his dagger and killed Abner in revenge for killing his brother Asahel. - 2 Samuel 3:27


  • So Joab and his brother Abishai killed Abner because Abner had killed their brother Asahel at the battle of Gibeon. - 2 Samuel 3:30


  • Other members of the Thirty included: Asahel, Joab's brother; Elhanan son of Dodo from Bethlehem; - 2 Samuel 23:24


  • Their sisters were named Zeruiah and Abigail. Zeruiah had three sons named Abishai, Joab, and Asahel. - 1 Chronicles 2:16


  • These were also included among David's mighty men: Asahel, Joab's brother; Elhanan son of Dodo from Bethlehem; - 1 Chronicles 11:26


  • Asahel, the brother of Joab, was commander of the fourth division, which was on duty during the fourth month. There were twenty-four thousand troops in his division. Asahel was succeeded by his son Zebadiah. - 1 Chronicles 27:7


  • He sent Levites along with them, including Shemaiah, Nethaniah, Zebadiah, Asahel, Shemiramoth, Jehonathan, Adonijah, Tobijah, and Tob-adonijah. He also sent out the priests, Elishama and Jehoram. - 2 Chronicles 17:8


  • The supervisors under them were Jehiel, Azaziah, Nahath, Asahel, Jerimoth, Jozabad, Eliel, Ismakiah, Mahath, and Benaiah. These appointments were made by King Hezekiah and Azariah, the chief official in the Temple of God. - 2 Chronicles 31:13


  • Only Jonathan son of Asahel and Jahzeiah son of Tikvah opposed this course of action, and Meshullam and Shabbethai the Levite supported them. - Ezra 10:15
