  • Then the man brought me back to the entrance of the Temple. There I saw a stream flowing eastward from beneath the Temple threshold. This stream then passed to the right of the altar on its south side. - Ezekiel 47:1


  • "Israel has built many altars to take away sin, but these very altars became places for sinning! - Hosea 8:11


  • How prosperous Israel is--a luxuriant vine loaded with fruit! But the more wealth the people got, the more they poured it on the altars of their foreign gods. The richer the harvests they brought in, the more beautiful the statues and idols they built. - Hosea 10:1


  • The hearts of the people are fickle; they are guilty and must be punished. The LORD will break down their foreign altars and smash their many idols. - Hosea 10:2


  • But Gilead is filled with sinners who worship idols. And in Gilgal, too, they sacrifice bulls; their altars are lined up like the heaps of stone along the edges of a plowed field. - Hosea 12:11


  • Dress yourselves in sackcloth, you priests! Wail, you who serve before the altar! Come, spend the night in sackcloth, you ministers of my God! There is no grain or wine to offer at the Temple of your God. - Joel 1:13


  • The priests, who minister in the LORD's presence, will stand between the people and the altar, weeping. Let them pray, "Spare your people, LORD! They belong to you, so don't let them become an object of mockery. Don't let their name become a proverb of unbelieving foreigners who say, `Where is the God of Israel? He must be helpless!'   • "On the very day I punish Israel for its sins, I will destroy the pagan altars at Bethel. The horns of the altar will be cut off and fall to the ground. - Amos 3:14


  • Then I saw a vision of the Lord standing beside the altar. He said, "Strike the tops of the Temple columns so hard that the foundation will shake. Smash the columns so the roof will crash down on the people below. Then those who survive will be slaughtered in battle. No one will escape! - Amos 9:1


  • The LORD Almighty will protect his people, and they will subdue their enemies with sling stones. They will shout in battle as though drunk with wine, shedding the blood of their enemies. They will be filled with blood like a bowl, drenched with blood like the corners of the altar. - Zechariah 9:15


  • On that day even the harness bells of the horses will be inscribed with these words: SET APART AS HOLY TO THE LORD. And the cooking pots in the Temple of the LORD will be as sacred as the basins used beside the altar. - Zechariah 14:20


  • "You have despised my name by offering defiled sacrifices on my altar. "Then you ask, `How have we defiled the sacrifices*?' "You defile them by saying the altar of the LORD deserves no respect.2 - Malachi 1:7


  • Here is another thing you do. You cover the LORD's altar with tears, weeping and groaning because he pays no attention to your offerings, and he doesn't accept them with pleasure. - Malachi 2:13


  • "So if you are standing before the altar in the Temple, offering a sacrifice to God, and you suddenly remember that someone has something against you, - Matthew 5:23


  • leave your sacrifice there beside the altar. Go and be reconciled to that person. Then come and offer your sacrifice to God. - Matthew 5:24


  • And you say that to take an oath `by the altar' can be broken, but to swear `by the gifts on the altar' is binding! - Matthew 23:18


  • How blind! For which is greater, the gift on the altar, or the altar that makes the gift sacred? - Matthew 23:19
