• Traveling through Canaan, they came to a place near Shechem and set up camp beside the oak at Moreh. At that time, the area was inhabited by Canaanites. - Genesis 12:6



• Then they arrived safely at Shechem, in Canaan, and they set up camp just outside the town. - Genesis 33:18



• Jacob bought the land he camped on from the family of Hamor, Shechem's father, for a hundred pieces of silver.*2 - Genesis 33:19



• But when the local prince, Shechem son of Hamor the Hivite, saw her, he took her and raped her. - Genesis 34:2



• But Shechem's love for Dinah was strong, and he tried to win her affection. - Genesis 34:3



• Meanwhile, Hamor, Shechem's father, came out to discuss the matter with Jacob. - Genesis 34:6



• He arrived just as Jacob's sons were coming in from the fields. They were shocked and furious that their sister had been raped. Shechem had done a disgraceful thing against Jacob's family,* a thing that should never have been done.1 - Genesis 34:7



• Hamor told Jacob and his sons, "My son Shechem is truly in love with your daughter, and he longs for her to be his wife. Please let him marry her. - Genesis 34:8



• Then Shechem addressed Dinah's father and brothers. "Please be kind to me, and let me have her as my wife," he begged. "I will give whatever you require. - Genesis 34:11



• But Dinah's brothers deceived Shechem and Hamor because of what Shechem had done to their sister. - Genesis 34:13



• Hamor and Shechem gladly agreed, - Genesis 34:18



• and Shechem lost no time in acting on this request, for he wanted Dinah desperately. Shechem was a highly respected member of his family, - Genesis 34:19



• including Hamor and Shechem. They rescued Dinah from Shechem's house and returned to their camp. - Genesis 34:26



• So they gave Jacob all their idols and their earrings, and he buried them beneath the tree near Shechem. - Genesis 35:4



• Soon after this, Joseph's brothers went to pasture their father's flocks at Shechem. - Genesis 37:12
