(Read Herod Part 1 First)
But when he learned that the new ruler was Herod's son Archelaus, he was afraid. Then, in another dream, he was warned to go to Galilee. - Matthew 2:22
When Herod Antipas* heard about Jesus,1 - Matthew 14:1
For Herod had arrested and imprisoned John as a favor to his wife Herodias (the former wife of Herod's brother Philip). - Matthew 14:3
John kept telling Herod, "It is illegal for you to marry her." - Matthew 14:4
Herod would have executed John, but he was afraid of a riot, because all the people believed John was a prophet. - Matthew 14:5
But at a birthday party for Herod, Herodias's daughter performed a dance that greatly pleased him, - Matthew 14:6
They decided to send some of their disciples, along with the supporters of Herod, to ask him this question: "Teacher, we know how honest you are. You teach about the way of God regardless of the consequences. You are impartial and don't play favorites. - Matthew 22:16
Later on, after John was arrested by Herod Antipas, Jesus went to Galilee to preach God's Good News. - Mark 1:14
At once the Pharisees went away and met with the supporters of Herod to discuss plans for killing Jesus. - Mark 3:6
Herod Antipas, the king, soon heard about Jesus, because people everywhere were talking about him. Some were saying,* "This must be John the Baptist come back to life again. That is why he can do such miracles."2 - Mark 6:14
When Herod heard about Jesus, he said, "John, the man I beheaded, has come back from the dead." - Mark 6:16
For Herod had sent soldiers to arrest and imprison John as a favor to Herodias. She had been his brother Philip's wife, but Herod had married her. - Mark 6:17
John kept telling Herod, "It is illegal for you to marry your brother's wife." - Mark 6:18
Herodias was enraged and wanted John killed in revenge, but without Herod's approval she was powerless. - Mark 6:19
And Herod respected John, knowing that he was a good and holy man, so he kept him under his protection. Herod was disturbed whenever he talked with John, but even so, he liked to listen to him. - Mark 6:20
Herodias's chance finally came. It was Herod's birthday, and he gave a party for his palace aides, army officers, and the leading citizens of Galilee. - Mark 6:21
As they were crossing the lake, Jesus warned them, "Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and of Herod." - Mark 8:15
