(Read Abimelech Part 1 First)
Now a severe famine struck the land, as had happened before in Abraham's time. So Isaac moved to Gerar, where Abimelech, king of the Philistines, lived. - Genesis 26:1
But some time later, Abimelech, king of the Philistines, looked out a window and saw Isaac fondling Rebekah. - Genesis 26:8
Abimelech called for Isaac and exclaimed, "She is obviously your wife! Why did you say she was your sister?" "Because I was afraid someone would kill me to get her from me," Isaac replied. - Genesis 26:9
"How could you treat us this way!" Abimelech exclaimed. "Someone might have taken your wife and slept with her, and you would have made us guilty of great sin." - Genesis 26:10
Then Abimelech made a public proclamation: "Anyone who harms this man or his wife will die!" - Genesis 26:11
And Abimelech asked Isaac to leave the country. "Go somewhere else," he said, "for you have become too rich and powerful for us." - Genesis 26:16
One day Isaac had visitors from Gerar. King Abimelech arrived with his adviser, Ahuzzath, and also Phicol, his army commander. - Genesis 26:26
He also had a concubine in Shechem, who bore him a son named Abimelech. - Judges 8:31
One day Gideon's* son Abimelech went to Shechem to visit his mother's brothers. He said to them and to the rest of his mother's family,1 - Judges 9:1
So Abimelech's uncles spoke to all the people of Shechem on his behalf. And after listening to their proposal, they decided in favor of Abimelech because he was their relative. - Judges 9:3
Then the people of Shechem and Beth-millo called a meeting under the oak beside the pillar* at Shechem and made Abimelech their king.2 - Judges 9:6
"Now make sure you have acted honorably and in good faith by making Abimelech your king, and that you have done right by Gideon* and all of his descendants. Have you treated my father with the honor he deserves?3 - Judges 9:16
But now you have revolted against my father and his descendants, killing his seventy sons on one stone. And you have chosen his slave woman's son, Abimelech, to be your king just because he is your relative. - Judges 9:18
If you have acted honorably and in good faith toward Gideon and his descendants, then may you find joy in Abimelech, and may he find joy in you. - Judges 9:19
But if you have not acted in good faith, then may fire come out from Abimelech and devour the people of Shechem and Beth-millo; and may fire come out from the people of Shechem and Beth-millo and devour Abimelech!" - Judges 9:20
Then Jotham escaped and lived in Beer because he was afraid of his brother Abimelech. - Judges 9:21
After Abimelech had ruled over Israel for three years, - Judges 9:22
