God Eternal

QUESTION: God Eternal – What do theologians say?

ANSWER:

Theologians speak of God Eternal with humble affection and awe. Timothy called Him “the King Eternal” (1 Timothy 1:17). Isaiah called Him “the Rock Eternal” (Isaiah 26:4); the God “who inhabits eternity” (Isaiah 26:4; 57:15, RSV). Throughout the centuries, men of God still contemplate how the infinite I AM demonstrates His eternal person, plan, and power.
  • God Eternal Through His Promises:
“What am I to say about Christ the Lord, who, not only in every teaching but also in his most astounding incarnation, explained and confirmed in a marvelous and living way that eternal covenant of God made with the human race...the highest miracle of love.” – Heinrich Bullinger (1504–1575)

  • God Eternal Extends His Mercy: “God is eternal...when he thinks his thoughts abide for ever, and when he acts his ways are everlasting...God is an eternal, self-existent Being, that to say He loves now, is, in fact, to say He always did love...and from everlasting to everlasting His mercies extend to His people.” – Charles H. Spurgeon (1834–1892)

  • God Eternal Fulfills His Plans: “This is another apt and beautiful emblem of Divine Providence. As mediatorial King, the Lord Jesus Christ undertakes the unrolling of this mysterious scroll—the unfolding of the eternal purposes of Jehovah—the controlling of all events, and the ordering and overruling of all the vicissitudes and revolutions in human affairs, the carrying out of the Divine purposes.” – Oswald Chambers (1874–1917)

  • God Eternal Redeems Mankind: “There is a certain sense in which from all eternity God has chosen his people for salvation...God knew from all eternity that man would fall, that man would rebel against him, and he also knew that he was going to make a provision to redeem people from all eternity. God's knowledge is as ancient and his omniscience is as eternal as he is. Everything that God knows, he knows from eternity.” – R. C. Sproul, founder and chairman of Ligonier Ministries

  • God Eternal Reveals His Power Through Love: “He is infinite, eternal, limitless. Psalm 147:5 ...turns me from my limitations to a God who knows no limitations...God’s love is eternal.” – Josh McDowell, evangelist and apologist

WHAT DO YOU THINK? - We have all sinned and deserve God's judgment. God, the Father, sent His only Son to satisfy that judgment for those who believe in Him. Jesus, the creator and eternal Son of God, who lived a sinless life, loves us so much that He died for our sins, taking the punishment that we deserve, was buried, and rose from the dead according to the Bible. If you truly believe and trust this in your heart, receiving Jesus alone as your Savior, declaring, "Jesus is Lord," you will be saved from judgment and spend eternity with God in heaven.
