Christian Mentoring

Christian Mentoring - Why Do Men Flee?
"Christian Mentoring" is a term that drives many men full-speed in the opposite direction! Why does the term Christian Mentoring make men so weak in the knees? It's probably a little different for each guy, but speaking in generalities, here are a few ideas:

  • A man's pride tells him to journey alone.
  • A man's heart tells him to remain quiet.
  • A man's mind tells him nobody will understand.
  • A man's emotions tell him to keep it under control.
  • Maybe you can relate to these. Maybe you're already feeling a little uneasy reading this website. Let us assure you, great gain comes when you show up and realize the discomfort you feel is a sign that something good is happening.

Christian Mentoring - No Pain, No Gain
Christian Mentoring is a one-on-one relational experience in which one person empowers another person by investing their God-given wisdom and resources.

You might be asking the question, what can I gain? We believe men have many things to gain when choosing to connect with a man who has been through the trenches of life we have yet to encounter. The most important essential is wisdom. We need to remember that one form of being mentored is discipleship. A disciple is simply a learner. If we take what we learn from another guy who has traveled the long and dusty road before us, and apply it to our life…we gain wisdom. Wisdom is applied knowledge and understanding. Doesn't sound so strange after all does it?

Why should I want gain? This question sounds amusing, almost humorous in many respects because it's so true and yet so false at the same time. Lets face it, we all want gain but at what price? If gain was free and gain was easy we would all sign up. However, it's not. In order to gain something we need to lose something. Trying to plow our way through life and accepting the rewards of our hard work often times seems like a good enough gain. But don't be fooled. What seems like great gain and steady progress to you, might be far less than what God has planned for you.

It the second chapter of the Bible, God tells us a fundamental truth about ourselves. He say's without wavering, 'It is not good for man to be alone.' Why? Because when God created us, he created us as social creatures, to have companionship with one another. Part of companionship is Christian mentoring. There is real value for a Christian man to be mentored along his life journey.

Christian Mentoring - One Man's Story
Christian mentoring has been indispensable for me! In my own journey, I have three mentors. I have a spiritual Christian mentor, I have a family Christian mentor, and I have a business Christian mentor. My spiritual Christian mentor pushes me in my formation as God's man. My family Christian mentor pushes me to be all that God wants me to be in the family as a dad and husband. And, my business Christian mentor pushes me to become fully integrated to God's plan in my work ethic and transactions.

When I project in my mind's eye where I would be without these three men in my life, I see a different man living in a different world. I don't doubt I would have gained some wisdom and balance in my life, but I think it would be far less that what God had planned through these Christian mentors.

Christian Mentoring - A Final Challenge
As far as Christian mentoring, can we make a suggestion before we part? Please pray about who God might have you approach to seek out a relationship specifically for the purpose of being mentored. Pray for boldness and courage to take the risk, pushing the pride aside, and ask another man to invest in you. It's God's plan! Finally, check out a top notch men's ministry who specializes in mentoring, training, teaching, and a host of other things. We love Every Man Ministries! WHAT DO YOU THINK? - We have all sinned and deserve God's judgment. God, the Father, sent His only Son to satisfy that judgment for those who believe in Him. Jesus, the creator and eternal Son of God, who lived a sinless life, loves us so much that He died for our sins, taking the punishment that we deserve, was buried, and rose from the dead according to the Bible. If you truly believe and trust this in your heart, receiving Jesus alone as your Savior, declaring, "Jesus is Lord," you will be saved from judgment and spend eternity with God in heaven.

    What is your response?

Yes, today I am deciding to follow Jesus

Yes, I am already a follower of Jesus
