What Do Angels Do?

QUESTION: What do angels do? What are their duties?

ANSWER:

The different duties assigned to angels depend on the type of angel being assigned to a particular duty. Ministering angels provide a service at God’s bidding for the children of God. Such as the time when an angel or angels:
  • Cooked two hot meals for Elijah when he was too weak and exhausted to continue God’s work (1 Kings 19:5-7).
  • Ministered to Christ when He fasted forty days and forty nights in the wilderness (Mark 1:13).
  • Rescued Peter from prison when Peter was chained between two sleeping guards (Acts 12:5-10).
  • Stood above the Lord’s throne as Isaiah saw Him high and lifted up after the death of King Uzziah. Isaiah heard the seraphim praising and worshipping the Lord (Isaiah 6:1-6).
  • Brought a message of comfort to the men of Galilee about how this same Jesus would come back again in the same manner as He had left them (Acts 1:9-11).
  • Watched over the righteous dead as they carried the body of the poor beggar to Abraham’s bosom (Luke 16:22).
  • Contended with Satan over Moses’ body, showing us how angels protect the bodies of the righteous dead (Jude 1:9).
  • Helped the tempted. Guardian angel activity was brought out when Christ fasted in the wilderness. Satan tempted Christ to throw Himself off the pinnacle of the temple so that the angels God had set over Son would save Him (Matthew 4:6; Psalm 34:7; 91: 11; Acts 12 7-10).
If you have experienced an incident where you think your life has been touched by angels, check your experiences with all the scriptures that are provided in these articles on angels. If the experience does not match up to the standards and characteristics listed here, then stay away from any messages that you feel you received. Remember that there are two classes of angels, good and bad. You do not want to follow directions coming from the fallen angels.

WHAT DO YOU THINK? - We have all sinned and deserve God's judgment. God, the Father, sent His only Son to satisfy that judgment for those who believe in Him. Jesus, the creator and eternal Son of God, who lived a sinless life, loves us so much that He died for our sins, taking the punishment that we deserve, was buried, and rose from the dead according to the Bible. If you truly believe and trust this in your heart, receiving Jesus alone as your Savior, declaring, "Jesus is Lord," you will be saved from judgment and spend eternity with God in heaven.
