Going To Heaven

Going to Heaven – Is Heaven a real place?
Going to Heaven is only achievable if heaven is a real place. The word heaven is often used to describe an extremely pleasant taste, feeling, or experience. But is it an actual place? The Bible says that there is a real place called heaven. It has a location and is populated and there is One who rules. Isaiah 6:1-2a says, “In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and exalted, and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were seraphs, each with six wings...” 1 Kings 22:19 says, “Micaiah continued, ‘Therefore hear the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on his throne with all the host of heaven standing around him on his right and on his left.’” Heaven is the place where God dwells; it is also inhabited by celestial and angelic hosts. These hosts are God’s messengers who carry out His bidding particularly for God’s own children. Psalms 91:11 says, “For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways...”

Heaven exists beyond the veil that separates the visible kingdom from the invisible kingdom. Man cannot see microorganisms with the naked eye, nevertheless we know that they exist among us and have properties and characteristics. In the same way we know, by faith, that heaven exists and that it is the place from which God reigns.

Going to Heaven – Who may go?
Going to heaven is the assurance of all who have believed in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. But many who do not profess a belief in Christ also dream of going to heaven. It is the natural thought of man as he sojourns upon this earth.

Job has stated correctly, “Man born of woman is of few days and full of trouble” (Job 14:1). As a result, there is a longing in all creatures for a better place where there is peace and rest. But God has reserved heaven for those who love Him, those who have committed their lives to Him as they live here on earth.

1 Peter 1:3-5 says, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade -- kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.”
There is no such hope for the unbeliever. The final doom of those who do not love God is hell. Luke 16:22b-23 says, “...The rich man also died and was buried. In hell, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side.”

Going to Heaven – How does a person get there?
Going to heaven is a journey that will take place in the future for all who have a relationship with Jesus Christ. The believer enters into the presence of the Lord at death. 2 Corinthians 5:1 says, “Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.”

The believer has this hope from the moment he accepts Christ. Believers realize that the earthly sojourn is but a moment in light of an eternity spent with God in Heaven; this is why we endure suffering and hardship, knowing that the day will come when God will call us home.

1 Thessalonians 4:14-18 says, “We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. According to the Lord's own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage each other with these words.”

If you understand that you are a sinner, and you believe that Jesus Christ came as the one and only Redeemer of sin, then you understand how to go to heaven. The question is – are you ready to receive God’s gift of His Son, Jesus Christ? If so, believe in Christ, repent of your sins, and commit the rest of your life to Him as Lord:
“Father, I know that I have broken your laws and my sins have separated me from you. I am truly sorry, and now I want to turn away from my past sinful life toward you. Please forgive me, and help me avoid sinning again. I believe that your son, Jesus Christ died for my sins, was resurrected from the dead, is alive, and hears my prayer. I invite Jesus to become the Lord of my life, to rule and reign in my heart from this day forward. Please send your Holy Spirit to help me obey You, and to do Your will for the rest of my life. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.”
"Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit" (Acts 2:38).

If you decided receive Jesus today, welcome to God's family. Now, as a way to grow closer to Him, the Bible tells us to follow up on our commitment.
  • Get baptized as commanded by Christ.
  • Tell someone else about your new faith in Christ.
  • Spend time with God each day. It does not have to be a long period of time. Just develop the daily habit of praying to Him and reading His Word. Ask God to increase your faith and your understanding of the Bible.
  • Seek fellowship with other followers of Jesus. Develop a group of believing friends to answer your questions and support you.
  • Find a local church where you can worship God.

WHAT DO YOU THINK? - We have all sinned and deserve God's judgment. God, the Father, sent His only Son to satisfy that judgment for those who believe in Him. Jesus, the creator and eternal Son of God, who lived a sinless life, loves us so much that He died for our sins, taking the punishment that we deserve, was buried, and rose from the dead according to the Bible. If you truly believe and trust this in your heart, receiving Jesus alone as your Savior, declaring, "Jesus is Lord," you will be saved from judgment and spend eternity with God in heaven.
